Why Mice, And Millions Of American Women, Should Use A Natural Moisturiser

There's very good reasons why mice should be using a natural moisturiser. And many of those reasons also apply to people, including the millions of women who use moisturisers in America.
A recent study was set up to investigate whether caffeine could cause skin cancer in mice. As a part of that study each mouse had moisturiser applied to it's skin 5 times a day for 17 weeks. The study is reported in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology.
The scientists were surprised to find a result that they hadn't expected. One of the conclusions that they drew from the study was that applying these moisturisers to the mice "increased the total number of histologically characterized tumors by 69%". Or, in layman's language, that using a moisturiser on the mice dramatically increased their risk of skin cancer.
Lets examine this a little more closely and find out why mice, and millions of women in the US who use moisturisers everyday, should be much more seriously considering using a natural moisturiser.
The moisturisers that were applied to the skin of the mice were Dermabase, Dermovan, Eucerin Original Moisturizing Cream (Eucerin), or Vanicream. Each of these moisturisers contains sodium lauryl sulphate and mineral oil.
Mineral oil is a very common ingredient in many personal products that you may use every day including cosmetics, skin care and anti aging products. It is a petrochemical product which means that it comes from crude oil and it has been linked to various cancers as well as other health problems. The reason mineral oil is used extensively is because it is extremely cheap.
You also find sodium lauryl sulphate in a wide range of soaps and shampoos and many consumers are aware that there are health risks from using products that contain sodium lauryl sulphate. For these reasons there are now soaps and shampoos available which advertise that they do not contain sodium lauryl sulphate. Sodium lauryl sulphate has been linked to cancer and other health problems as well. But many consumers are completely unaware that it is also found in many modern moisturisers.
Of course the fact that the scientists concluded that applying the moisturisers, which contain mineral oil and sodium lauryl sulphate, to the skin of the mice increased the risk of skin cancer doesn't prove that the sodium lauryl sulphate or the mineral oil caused the cancer. To prove that there would need to be more extensive studies. Nevertheless it is certainly of concern, and may have you sufficiently worried to question whether or not you should be considering using a more natural moisturiser in the future. However there is also one further fact that is worth knowing about the study.
This is the worrying fact. The scientists were very surprised to find the rate of skin cancer in the mice increase as they did, particularly given that this was not what they were studying. So they sourced another moisturiser that was a much more natural moisturiser, and which didn't contain any mineral oil or sodium lauryl sulphate and they redid the study. This time they found no increase in the rate of skin cancer in the mice.
So you can see that there are good reasons why millions of American women, as well as mice, should be using a much more natural facial moisturiser rather than a moisturiser that they may be using now, which may contain sodium lauryl sulphate and mineral oil.
Hundreds of our personal products contain chemical and petrochemical ingredients, many of which have been shown to cause cancer and other health problems. This extends to a wide range of moisturisers currently available and which you may use right now.
There are excellent natural skin care products available, including natural face moisturisers, which do not contain any of these chemical and petrochemical ingredients and which work extremely well.
