Mice, Natural Moisturizers, Sodium Lauryl Sulphate And Your Health

Chances are you use a moisturizer every day. It's a good idea to take care of your skin and there's hundreds of different anti aging skin care products available. However it may be news to you that many skin care products, such as moisturizers which contain chemical ingredients like sodium lauryl sulphate, may be putting your health at risk, and that there are powerful reasons to use a natural moisturizer.
Sodium lauryl sulphate works very well as a degreaser. Mechanics use it to degrease engines and because of its properties it is used in many well known brands of soaps and shampoos, and consumers are becoming more and more aware that finding sodium lauryl sulphate in your shampoos and soaps is not good.
But it's not nearly so well known that so many big name moisturizers also contain sodium lauryl sulphate, (as well as many of the chemical ingredients) and using these products regularly may cause skin cancer.
There was a study done on mice reported in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology. In this study the scientists were looking to understand better the effects of caffeine on mice. As part of the study a number of moisturizers were applied to the skin of the mice 5 times a day for 17 weeks and the mice also received some UV radiation to simulate sunlight.
The moisturizers used in the study all contained sodium lauryl sulphate as well as other chemical and petrochemical ingredients such as mineral oil.
The scientists were surprised to find that the mice who received the moisturizer had an increased risk of skin cancer of 69 percent.
So they decided to study this again using a moisturizer with no sodium lauryl sulphate or mineral oil. And they found that this time there was no increase in the risk of skin cancer to the mice.
Perhaps now you're beginning to see the link between moisturizers, sodium lauryl sulphate and skin cancer and are beginning to wonder whether you should be considering natural moisturizers next time you're looking to buy your anti aging skin care products.
Or maybe you've just thrown away the moisturizer you have in the cupboard now.
The sad fact is that there is a wide range of chemical and petrochemical ingredients such as sodium lauryl sulphate used in so many of the big brand-name skin care and anti aging products that so many women use every day. There are many natural alternatives which make excellent moisturizers. There are many oils from various fruits and nuts that have excellent and well-known moisturizing properties, however these are not commonly used because chemical ingredients such as sodium lauryl sulphate and mineral oil are much cheaper.
There are some wonderful natural moisturizers available. They use ingredients which are highly effective at moisturizing and which are known to be safe, and which will not put you at risk of skin cancer.
So maybe now you're beginning to consider throwing away those anti aging skin care products which you may have in the cupboard right now. There are excellent natural skin care products and natural moisturizers available to you which work better than the chemical alternatives and which have no health risks attached.
