Leaflet delivery is a fantastic way to advertise, relatively cheaply, your services to a particular demographic.

The Direct Marketing Association (DMA) has researched leaflet delivery in the context of advertising businesses, and found that 72 percent of people have taken some action towards making a purchase as a result of receiving business information in the form of leaflet delivery through their doors.

An even larger amount - 84 per cent - agreed that they had taken action and made a purchase when a money-off voucher had arrived through the letterbox.

Leaflet delivery can be cheaper than buying advertisement space in a publication and carries a much higher chance of your message being seen as rather than vying for attention on a page in a magazine or local paper that you can't be sure how many people read anyway. Additionally, the DMA reports that people receiving leaflets through their doors are 10 per cent more likely to take action on the advert than if they had received an addressed form of direct mail.

How you choose to conduct a leaflet campaign, and how much involvement you have in it, depends on your confidence in your own skills and abilities.

If you've got a flair for design, and are familiar with design software, you may wish to complete the design of the leaflet yourself, or perhaps you already have a set of visuals important to your brand identity. However, it's often best to leave this to a professional as a badly-designed advertisement can be detrimental to a business.

Once you have your flyer ready, it's important to work closely with the leaflet distribution company to make sure you ascertain the exact demographic you wish to target.

A good leaflet distribution company will have in-house profiling systems which will be able to match properties within an area that fall into the categories you want to target. You will of course have researched your own customer base, and together with the distribution company will be able to work out the perfect target categories for a successful campaign.

Finally, choose a long-established leaflet distribution company for peace of mind about reliability. Many companies can proudly say that they employ well-paid long-standing leaflet distributors that they trust. Remember, a business needs to cover costs and make a profit from the work also. If you're quoted a price that seems too good to be true, it's likely to prove to be a false economy. Do your research, and invest your money in a firm whose services you can trust.
