Keyword traffic generation is essential in internet marketing. It is the first step in targeting your market. Keywords are the specific words that your market is using to find information in the search engines. Your job is to discover what these keywords are to bring your targeted market to your website.
Find Out What Your Niche is Looking For
You have to start out by choosing a niche that you are going to target. Then you have to find the keywords that that niche market is looking for, and choose keywords that will attract those people. These are the techniques that you can use to generate keyword traffic to your website.
Research your market by going to Google and typing in keywords or phrases and see the results that you get. If there are many people searching these terms, you probably have a good niche, as there is a lot of interest. It might also be a good keyword, but you have to find out more. You next have to find out how much competition the keyword is getting from other websites.
Find Out Your Competition
You want to use a keyword that does not have more competition than searches. You want to make sure that you are not competing with too many other websites to get that keyword traffic to your website. So you want to find the best keyword that you can choose with the least amount of competition.
As a general rule of thumb, you should target keywords that have search results of five hundred thousand or less per month in terms of keyword traffic. The keywords that have much larger results are generally very broad and have too much competition.
Long Tail Keywords
Knowing how to pick keywords is a highly specialized skill. It is good to find "long tail keywords", meaning that they are made up of 3 or more words to generate keyword traffic. These are more specific keywords. If you just choose a one word keyword, it will generate a very broad term. You are not targeting the keyword traffic sufficiently. The result will be that you will you will not get people that are interested in the specific product or service you are offering.
For example, if your keyword is "dog", and you are offering "dog training", you may be getting thousands of people who are looking for information on sick dogs, barking dogs, dog medicine, or a variety of other dog issues. So you want to narrow down your search, while maintaining the above mentioned rules of keyword traffic searches and competition.
Keyword Traffic Tools
There are many keyword traffic tools to aid you in this process. These are highly specialized tools that will help you narrow down the above criteria. In other words, they will do the work for you. They tell you how many people search for these keywords over a certain period of time, as well as other keyword phrases to consider. The keyword tool I use even gives me the "S.O.C.", strength of competition, meaning it calculates for me if a keyword is strong all around or not, according to the number of searches. This is the kind of information that is invaluable to bring visitors to your websites very rapidly.
If you know how to properly use these keyword traffic generation tools you will be able to bring large numbers of people to your website. Take your time to research your market and your keywords. Always remember that research is key.
Use a keyword traffic tracking tool to shorten your research and target your market effectively. I use Micro Niche Finder, and it gives me all the information in a few minutes that I could spend hours looking for.
