Honor Thy Mother On Mother's Day

With Mother's Day nearing, it is important for us to reflect on the Bible verse from Exodus 20:12, "Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the lord thy God giveth thee."

It is really important that we take the time to honor thy mother, and not just on Mother's day. It is so important that it is the Ten Commandments. The first four Commandments teaches how to appreciate, worship, and obey the one true God. The six following Commandments teach us how to live in peace with our fellow humans, beginning with our parents.

In fact, according to Deuteronomy 21: 18-21 of the King James Version, "If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them: Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place; And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard. And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you".

If you had difficulties with your parents growing up, it is important that you come to terms with them. For God commanded, saying, Honor thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death. But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; And honor not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition," Matthew 15:4-6. It is never too late. In fact, this Mother's day may be the perfect time for you to make up with your Mother if you have had a falling out.

Religion can often come between parents and children. Children often rebel against their parents, and in turn, their parent's religion. If this applies to you, use this Mother's day as a time to make amends. Go to church with your parents, it will mean the world to them and might just do you some good in return.

Our mothers are the women who brought us into this world. They loved you and took care of you when you could not take care of yourself. No matter what you do this Mother's Day, make sure that you tell your mom that you love her, and remember the 5th Commandment.
