I played as a pitcher in my University days and I have learned the importance of my role because I have the power to make or break the game. I proved it as much because once I get too locked up in my serious intent to strike three consecutive opponents, it surely is the door to my team's win. However, if I do otherwise, it usually is a reason for my team's downfall. Certainly, I can say that being a pitcher is the most important role there is on the field. No one except the pitcher has too much influence on the outcome of the game the way pitchers do. So I must say pitchers hold the most important role there is in the triangle.
I have learned the essential drill that pitchers must do to become a very good pitcher at work. This is the one knee pitching drill which is exactly performed as it is you think on how it would be done. The pitcher should be on her one knee kneeling but the knee should be on the same side as the arm she is using for pitching. Her distance from her catcher would be around 18-20 feet away. Marking a line on the ground, he other leg should be put on top of that line. The line should extend all the way to the catcher. The leg on top of that line should be slightly bent. The kneeling purpose is to have a stable lower body segment so she can focus on her upper body segment and on the mechanics of the way she pitches.
The drill should start with both her hands down on the side of her kneeling knee or her pitching leg for that matter. Her hands should be together holding the ball including her gloved hand and it should stay that way as she finishes the first quarter of arm circling for pitching. As she continues with the motion, she should stay within the marked line as she going through her hand motion and continue doing that way. Throwing the ball and striking will not matter in this drill.
The pitcher should ensure that she is always balanced all throughout the drill. Her body should be positioned accordingly which means she should not arch her back backward or sag her shoulders forward. In addition, while she is pitching, her arms should not go behind her head. Furthermore, her hand motion should be always within that line and finishes with the line extending to her catcher.
This is just one of those many pitching drills that a pitcher must undergo so that they can be the best on what they do because as I have already said, pitchers have the ability to make or break the game. Furthermore, pitchers should continue doing the drills as regular as possible. The drill that I have mentioned is by far the most important drill there is. This drill will help pitchers to have balance and focus on the upper segment of her body.
