Many people have different scars and marks on their body that are unsightly to that person or to others that can see them. Not all scars and marks are visible to people other than the person with them on their body. These scars and marks can be removed with different cosmetic procedures in office or in a hospital and some cannot be removed too easily. Some of the most common marks on the body are called spider veins.
Other types of vein problems are when a person has a varicose vein. How do you tell if you suffer from this condition?
These veins appear as bluish, purplish and reddish along the thigh of men and women. This condition is more prominent in men than women. It affects only 15 percent of men while it affects 25 percent of the female population in the United States. The word varicose is derived from the Latin term of varix, which in English means twisted. Any vein throughout the entire body can become varicose but it usually only occurs in the leg and the ankle.
As with other cosmetic problems, having a varicose vein on the body could cause a drop in self-confidence and make people feel less attractive. This type of altered vein in the body can be caused in women by pregnancy and in both men and women by hemorrhoids.
Hemorrhoids can be created during pregnancy for women because of the extreme pressure of the birth and the constant pushing. Hemorrhoids are really swollen veins in the anus of a person suffering from the condition.
What are the symptoms of having a varicose vein? They cause aches or a heavy feeling in the legs, burning, throbbing, muscle cramping and even swelling in the lower legs. Other symptoms of this condition are itching around one or more of the veins and skin ulcers near your ankles.
This condition can be caused by standing or sitting in the same position for a long period of time, obesity, age, sex and genetics. Women are more prone to develop this type of vein than men, if other members of your family have it then you are prone to developing it and having extra weight puts more pressure on veins.
How do I prevent the development of a varicose vein? Make sure you exercise regularly, eat a healthy diet and watch your weight, watch what you wear because high heels and tight clothing around the waist, groin and legs can cause circulation problems, elevate your legs whenever possible, avoid long periods of standing or sitting and do not sit with your legs crossed because it can aggravate existing circulation problems or cause new ones.
There are alternative medicines available to treat this problem but before purchasing anything make sure you consult with your physician first for any treatment options. As always, cosmetic surgery should be recommended by your doctor to treat your vein problems, you should not jump the gun with any major decisions affecting surgery on a part of your body.
