The scepticism about the success of Viagra as a erectile dysfunction (E.D) drug was put to rest sooner than expected. Its penetration into the multi million dollar E.D .drug market, encouraged other pharmaceutical giants to follow suit, resulting in a host of similar drugs being made available. One –third of the 30 million American men sufferering from E.D . or impotence as E.D ,is commonly known have tried Viagra. Erectile Dysfunction is the inability of the penis to become rigid or stay rigid long enough to complete the sexual act.
Viagra’s stranglehold of the E.D .drug market was loosened with the entry of Cialis. Eli-Lilly and ICOS joined hands to launch Cialis in Feb 2003.Ever since it’s launch Cialis has steadily grown in strength and is popular in Europe and America. Fondly named as Super Viagra, it out performs all other alternatives. Cialis has been an improvement on Viagra.
Though they work in similar ways , Cialis and Viagra are distinctly different chemical entities.
Some urologists are of the opinion that Cialis is more effective at blocking the PDE 5(phosphodiesterase-5) enzyme and hence more potentially more potent than Viagra. This means that Cialis could act as well as, or better than Viagra at smaller doses. They also interact with fewer other molecules and hence might have fewer side effects.
In clinical trials , the majority of men who took the drug were able to engage in sexual intercourse within 30 minutes or less. The studies also indicated that Cialis stays in the system for upto 24 hours. That’s 18 hours longer than the traditional Viagra treatment.
Although Cialis maybe preferred over other E.D. drugs, as erections are faster and lasts longer it is not for everyone. Men taking nitrates should never take this drug. As the combination may cause an unsafe drop in blood pressure .Doctors caution against the use of E.D. drugs because they are accompanied by serious risks such as increased chance of heart attack.
