Choosing wedding gifts is probably one of the most time-consuming things to do, especially if you have no idea what to buy for the happy couple. Recent statistics have shown that weddings alone are a multi-million pound industry, with the average wedding costing between 16,000 pounds to 25,000 pounds. There are a number of things to consider when spending money on a wedding, it is not simply the wedding ceremony that takes a chunk of your savings but the catering service, hiring of the venue, flowers, decorations, furniture hire etc.

Above all, purchasing the wedding outfits, fashion accessories, hair and make-up all add up to the total cost. Aside from the grim prospects of paying out a hefty sum of money, the day of the event results in a happy memorable time for both the couple and the guests - assuming that everything goes to plan! The guests on the other hand do not have to suffer as much as the couple; however, they do suffer greatly on finding the right present to commemorate the event.

Choosing a gift need not be so stressful, however if left to the last minute then you may find that you will not find what you are looking for straight away. It is always a good idea to allow yourself extra time beforehand to buy a gift in time for the wedding. There are simple steps to finding the right wedding gift, but if you want to buy a gift that stands out from any other then perhaps the following suggestions may be useful to you.

Snoop For Information

The best thing to do before going shopping is to have a word with the couple's family such as their parents or siblings, and be inspired by some of their wedding gifts suggestions. The worst kind of present to buy would be something that they are not likely to use and will store away for a number of years, before deciding to sell it on eBay eventually. The best present would be something that they can use over an again, or something that stands out as a sentimental piece from yourself.

The most wedding gifts are those that resemble fine china, some fancy patterns and a bobble-wrapping which in truth will never come off for a long time. In fact there will be plenty of people buying similar things, such as dinner sets, vases, cooking utensils and anything to help them settle into their new house. Before going ahead and buying what you think will be perfect for them, always give the family member a ring to find out whether that would be appropriate. They may even have a list of suggested gifts so then that way you will know if what you will be buying has already been bought or not.

Work From A Budget

If money is of an issue, you should try to get a good idea of how much you are likely to spend and what kind of present you can get from that present. At the end of the day the phrase 'It's the thought that counts' means something if you really do put a lot of thought into it. There is no point in buying something last minute on a sale, which has no connection with how much you appreciate the couple and to commemorate their day.

Allow time to research the various gifts available. Instead sticking to what others are choosing to do, go for something that adds a bit of your own personality into it, or will last for many years to come. Sometimes buy a bottle of wine that matures over time is a good gift, as long as the message reads for it to be opened in ten years time. This can double up as a treat for their ten year anniversary.
