If you want to bypass the hefty commission fees charged by boat and yacht brokers you may want to consider going to one of the buy owner sources. We have some like this in my local area but you can find numerous locations online such as Ebay and iBoats.

There is a large selection of vessels of all kinds and all sizes to be found online and you can buy them straight from the owner. This will also expose you to a wide variety of styles you may not have seen before.
A couple of years ago I was looking around for a used fishing boat and really didn't like anything that I saw locally so I went online. I was amazed at the wide array of choices and was actually introduced to some boats I hadn't seen before that really caught my interest. That is also what got me into sailing, but that's another story.

What is great about shopping online is that it instantly broadens you search and gives you access to thousands of boats all over. Whether you want to buy a boat or sell yours this is truly a great choice. After using the internet for my boating purchases as well as buying and selling cars and trucks online I wouldn't go back to conventional methods.

No matter what site you choose they are usually well organized by length, style, price etc. This way you can narrow your search to the type of boat you are looking for. There is no point in looking at million dollar yachts when you can only afford something in the 30k range.

You may find like me that there are vessels out there you didn't even realize you liked until you start looking into them. Some of the boats advertised even have virtual tours that make it feel like you are actually on the boat. This is what made me fall in love with catamarans. That's the great thing about online sites for people who aren't really sure about what they want, there is so much to look at you are sure to find one you like.

If you are just looking for a starter boat or even a row boat you can find those here as well, I have seen many boats for less than $500. As a matter of fact I bought my first Walker Bay boat online along with a 4 HP 4 -stroke Nisan Motor.

Using the internet opens you up to a world of options and it's way more fun and enlightening than just shopping locally. Give it a try, you'll be glad you did.
